Positive Pups DC is a woman-owned and operated sole-proprietorship dog training business founded by Ellen Engle in the early 2000s. Ellen has loved and lived with dogs all of her life, since the day she was born. As the youngest of six children, she found herself as a petite eight-year-old having to retrain their family's 60-pound Samoyed, Prince, to walk gently on a leash because her older and stronger brothers had allowed him/her to behave badly by tugging and jerking while being walked.
Ellen holds a BA degree in psychology with a focus on cognitive learning, and carries this knowledge into her dog training career. She believes wholeheartedly in positive reinforcement, setting dogs up to succeed, and focuses on building a loving and trusting relationship between dogs and their owners.
"I love to see the 'light bulb' go off above a dog's head when s/he learns a new behavior that is pleasing to their human family members," says Ellen.
Ellen conducts one-on-one training in the dog's own familiar home setting, where she can observe them interacting with their family in their most comfortable and natural state.
